Marlon Brando Jr. was born on April 3, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska. His stage and film performance as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire helped establish him as one of the most influential American actors of his generation.
Brando won Academy Awards for On the Waterfront and The Godfather, and his other landmark films include Julius Caesar, Last Tango in Paris and Apocalypse Now. He declined the 1973 Oscar ceremony in protest over the portrayal and treatment of Native Americans.
