Sir Thomas Sean Connery was born on August 25, 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He became the first actor to play James Bond in the official film series, beginning with Dr. No in 1962, and portrayed the secret agent in seven films.
Connery also gave memorable performances in The Man Who Would Be King, Highlander, The Name of the Rose and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He won the Academy Award for supporting actor for The Untouchables and retired from acting after The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
