William Theodore Walton III was born on November 5, 1952, in La Mesa, California. At UCLA he helped the Bruins win two NCAA championships and was part of the program’s record 88-game winning streak.
Walton won the 1977 NBA championship with the Portland Trail Blazers and was named Finals MVP, then received the 1977–78 league MVP award. He later won the 1986 championship and Sixth Man of the Year award with the Boston Celtics, entered the Basketball Hall of Fame and built a long second career as a broadcaster.
